How do I activate the logfile?

For analyzing purposes, CSSI allows the creation of log files to log the communication activity of the MS-CAPI, PKCS#11 and TSS interfaces. The log files log all function calls into a .txt file. Any entry contains the function name, the parameters before and after the function call and the result of the function. Private information is hidden by a static string “[-------------------------------------------------]”, thus only the length of the entry is readable.

If you are facing troubles when using the log file option of the software, please do not hesitate to contact us.

using Microsoft Windows

The settings may be configured in the Windows registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software\charismathics\smart security interface.

  • Please add the following entries for logging PKCS#11 and CSP functions:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ charismathics\smart security interface]
"CSP_LogFile_name"="c:/CSP_log.txt"
"PKCS11_LogFile_name"="c:/PKCS11_log.txt"
"LogFile_mode"=dword:00000001

  • If you are using the TPM extension of CSSI by using the TSS stack, please use CSSI_param.reg in the main installation directory, instead of manual entries into the registry. Then double-check the registry for the new settings under:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ charismathics\smart security interface]

In both cases dword:00000001 sets the logging mode to "on", dword:00000000 sets it back to "off".

using Apple Macintosh

charismathics currently does not offer a log file option under Mac OS X.

using Linux

If you want to create a logfile within Linux, you may specify the environment variable ´SCINTERFACE´ with the wished filename and path, e.g.
in bash ´export SCINTERFACE=/tmp/cmP11.log´
