How do my applications get the certificates?

On Microsoft Windows Vista and 7, the operating systems is responsible to propagate certificates when the card is inserted. Under Windows XP, charismathics middleware uses a specialized process to propagate the certificate, called charismathics registration tool. Applications like Firefox and Thunderbird use the PKCS#11 library which propagates all certificates needed.
